My Website Is Down... Or Is It?
A few days ago upon trying to connect to either the server of my web host or the domain imoneyonline I was getting a non existent page or page cannot be displayed message. I immediately contacted my web host telling them that the server is down. I got a reply saying the server is not down and never was so I decided to test again. I was still getting the same error message as if the server and domain is offline. So I decided to do a website test from one of the sites I usually do a server speed test from. Surprise. The domain was responding perfectly and with decent speed. This means somewhere in between my isp in brazil and the backbone of my host in the US is down.
While general surfing, once in a while, I would come across a website that would not respond. Maybe it was going through the same backbone as well? In any case, this backbone failure went on for about 4 days. Only today I was actually able to access the server and finally make a post. So remember to do a test from another network of your domain before you acuse your webhost for being offline. In case this backbone was going to continue to be offline for more days I had a backup plan but I was a little worried about security. My plan was to find a https proxy that permitted connection to my web server. Any proxy in the usa would have worked the problem is free proxies or proxies you find online could be setup for hacking, spyware, etc. I don't trust them, not for logging in with user and pass of sensitive data. So if you find yourself in this situation and really can't wait, do a search for myspace proxy and you should get something or https proxy. The proxy does not need to be anonymous but https is recommended and in some cases obrigatory.
